Canales keen on Real scalp

Valencia midfielder Sergio Canales says his side are gunning for victory when they travel to play Real Madrid to start the new Liga season.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at the Mestalla and only this week had his move made permanent.

Canales expressed his delight at finalising the deal and spoke of how he hopes to repay his new club for the faith they have shown in him, after he spent much of last term on the sidelines with injury.

"I'm very happy, Valencia made a very big effort to sign me and I hope to get back to my best in return," he told El Mundo Deportivo.

The Spaniard is now looking ahead to the new season and has made it clear that this first objective is to overcome Real Madrid away from home.

"We have had a good pre-season so far and are well prepared for the new season where we hope we will be very competitive. But our first goal is to win at the Santiago Bernabeu," he said.

The former Spain Under-21 made just 11 appearances last season due to injury and is hoping to feature more in 2012/13.

"I hope that this season we have better luck with injuries as we want to have a good campaign and fulfill all our goals," he said.

Real Madrid host Valencia on August 19.
