MANCHESTER, England (AFP) - Manchester United sold Spanish defender Gerard Pique to his former club Barcelona on Tuesday.
Pique, 21, agreed a four-year contract with Barca as he returns to the Nou Camp four years after leaving to join United.
The centre-back made only 23 appearances for the Premier League champions during his time at Old Trafford as he struggled to break Sir Alex Ferguson's first-choice defensive pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
Pique's move to Spain is part of new Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola's bid to have more local players in his team next season.
A statement on United's website confirmed the transfer, which is reported to be worth around six million pounds (7.5 million euros).
"FC Barcelona and Manchester United have reached agreement for the transfer of Gerard Pique to the Catalan club. Gerard, 21, will sign a four-year contract with Barcelona," the statement said.

Please do realize that this is just a part of Barcelona's plan. They just want to start trading with Manchester United, build a good relationship. Sooner or later, they'll have Cristiano Ronaldo.
