LIVERPOOL, England (AFP) - Liverpool announced Friday they'd signed Italian defender Andrea Dossena from Udinese.
The left-back joined shortly after the Reds signed Swiss right-back Philipp Degen.
Like Degen, Dossena has signed a four-year deal.
The 26-year-old replaced Norwegian John Arne Riise who left for Roma earlier in the close season and joined for an undisclosed fee reported to be around seven million pounds (14 million dollars).
He has been capped once by Italy, in a friendly last year.
Degen joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

Ajax72, I didn't say that one has to be born in Italy to be the best defender in the world, or that Andrea Dossena is the best defender in the world. I only said that Italians make the best defenders in the world! It simply means that, as a rule, and history shows that, Italians make the best defenders in the world! Mince these words. Andrea Dossena may be an unknown but just like skrtel, he will grow into the team. No doubt (at the moment) Riise is uncomparable but Dossena's worth will be realised soon, and just like Riise, he's a no nonsense athlete.
