Ferguson gives Ronaldo some fatherly advice over Real move

DURBAN, South Africa (AFP) - Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo would be doing the 'worst thing' for his career if he succeeding in engineering a move from Old Trafford to Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old Portuguese forward once again refused to rule out a move to the Spanish champions over the weekend, despite Ferguson's insistence last Friday that he would not be leaving Old Trafford. But Ferguson, in Durban ahead of United's friendly clash with Orlando Pirates on Tuesday, insisted again that Ronaldo will be staying at United. And he also warned the player that Madrid is the last place he should be attempting to move to. Ferguson said: "If you were asked for advice by your son, you would give him the best advice and the worst thing Ronaldo could do at the age of 23 is to go to Real Madrid. "He is at the right club and a fantastic football club and the future is that he has signed a five-year contract and has four years left. That's definite because I have seen his signature. "In the modern-day, young lads can be twisted by the talk of money, but if you saw Ronaldo after the Champions League final, he was the happiest boy in the world. I genuinely believe that I know what the best club in the world is for him and that is Manchester United. "When you have young players, you want the best for them and you want to do the best for them." United midfielder Michael Carrick has urged Ronaldo to think again about his future after insisting United are on the verge of more glory. Carrick said: "The best thing I have done is to come here (from Spurs). For me it is a no-brainer. "Everything that surrounds the club is moving in the right direction and we want to build on that, but we have to use what we have achieved. We drive ourselves on and we expect so much of each other. "People from outside have nothing to do with us but we know what we are capable of and that means more European Cups and Championships." Ferguson remains in the hunt for Spurs hitman Dimitar Berbatov, despite Tottenham's attempts to keep the Bulgarian at White Hart Lane. But the United boss admits that adding new blood to his squad is not easy, despite last season's Champions League win. He said: "We did a lot of stocking up last summer, buying four players of good ages as part of a policy of bringing in footballers who could develop and we think there is further progress there. "I had 23 players in Moscow and they will still be there for this season because we are happy with the squad. "It is difficult for us to buy and improve on that because we know why clubs don't want to sell their best players and we don't either." |

Ronaldo is a player that likes controversy, It spurs him on. If you boo him he will play better. He turned into a much better player after getting stick at every away game for the Rooney wink in the 2006 WC. I hope it's not the same case when he comes back from injury following all this hoo-haa, having to win the Man U fans over again. The slave dickhead should just piss off & Sepp Blatter should resign, how can the man in charge of world football say such an ignorrent comment?Tontodonati July 21st, 2008 21:11
OK! Ferguson is right! The problem's the money. I would like to see Ronaldo honor his contract. That's the right thing to do. Unfortunately, Real Madrid is sticking their nose where they should not. I'm going to change my . . infallible prediction: Ronaldo will stay put!gunnermassacre July 21st, 2008 22:30
Sell his **s. I'm a gunner through and through and if he was on my team I'd be emailing and calling the organization lobbying for his sale. He is an arrogant, show-off that without the quality surrounding him at ManU would have scored maybe 10 goals all off of free kicks! ManU have more than enough quality already to put up with his antics. SAF and ManU made this player and this is the thanks they get?!? Sell him off for huge money, pad your books, then crush him and the rest of the "super-stars" at Crap-al Madrid in the Champions League.Tontodonati July 21st, 2008 23:01
gunnermassacre, you speak just like a South American freedom fighter. They are constantly waging some sort of revolution. In the process, they do massacre many people. Are you one of them? If so state it in your profile or get out of here. We don't appreciated anonimous people! This site is the archetype of images of symposium, communion, friendship and . . . love! Jist look at Tonto, Giorgio, Ajax, Worst TalentScout. Gunner, Crusader, DaJohnner, gunner_eagle, Bluebobsky and so many others. Have a nice day!manchesterpete16 July 22nd, 2008 00:03
I agree with achavabillI'm a HUGE Manchester United supporter and if Ronaldo wants to leave....then let him leave. United will move on without him, they will be more of a TEAM in my opinion without Ronaldo. There are plenty of young lads that can take his spot, maybe with not as much to offer, but players that will play their socks off day in and day out and also learn from the veterans like Giggs, Scholes, and Neville. Nani or Eagles could fit into Ronaldo's role over time and turn out to be fantastic players.
Ronaldo is a fantastic player, but he has now lost the respect of so many United supporters, myself included.
United 4 life!

Tonto, I'm truly hurt that I wasnt included in your elite list of soccerettes. It is nice to see you have taken on board my views on the Ronaldo "is he staying, is he going" saga. Peace and love soccerettes. Claire Brown R.I.P.Tontodonati July 22nd, 2008 11:43

This Ronaldo of a guy should be off loaded my Man united, i really dont know why man united keep beging him, they have got a good team without him, without the couple of good players around him, he would not have scored that no of goals, given him all the penalties and so on, that would nover happen in Real madridgunnermassacre July 22nd, 2008 14:51
Freedom Fighter for all Tontodonati, not just South America! yes even freedom for Ronaldo from the "slavery" of making millions playing for a top notch side that has done everything for him...hence why I say sell him!!!!Giorgio July 22nd, 2008 16:30
Newtonheath1878,Actually I believe that "soccerettes" is a noun in the feminine gender. I don't think there is a masculine equivalent.
newtonheath1878 July 22nd, 2008 17:06
Giorgio, your observations of English linguistics prescription are admirable and correct in regards to "soccerettes". I feel the description is quite fitting with some of the girly squabbling that goes on in this blog. On a more serious note Giorgio, soccerettes are also a comedy act on a very popular British football talk show. Peace and love Soccerettes.Tontodonati July 22nd, 2008 17:56
Giorgio and Newtonheath, yes there is a masculine term. It's "Socceroons." But it's better to identify ourselves with young ladies than with the Australians!newtonheath1878 July 22nd, 2008 18:00
Unless they are young Australian Ladies eh Tonto!Tontodonati July 22nd, 2008 23:09
